Well it looks like no elk hunting, second choice antelope tag and the holy grail 87 deer tag again this year (found out at work and everyone got to watch the Sasquatch happy dance)
Then I get home and find out last years Mule deer is done at the taxidermist......Not your typical 4x4
How have your hunting plans been working out?

Had my heart set on applying for a deer tag this year but didn't apply. ACand furnace took a dump. $11k later, there's new units in and working. Should have bought a preference point. CJ I need to talk to you about finding a decent muley buck for my wall. Maybe next year...

You can still buy a point Charlie:D and you will need a few to get a good area. It took 11 (it was 10 last year) for 87 this year BUT good areas can be had for a couple of points but you will have to have a couple of points......gives us time to get a plan.
The hard winter year before last was hard on the western herd but around here they are doing alright

I never try to turn down luck, but am prone to stupid on occasion

Last year we turned down a lot of nice 4 pointers, Tyson had to settle on this little guy. He gets first choice this year ;)

Didn't draw here in Colo. I've got 6 points and that is what is usually took, but they change the kill quota so now only eight tags were drawn for the two rifle seasons. Was thirty before. Guess I'll just have to stop trying to miss them with the pickup and hope for a "head shot"
We feed more deer on the farm than most people see in a year but can't get a tag to legally kill one.
Guess I should stop shooting the coyotes and let nature take it's course with the deer population.
Maybe I'll get a elk this year, but may not even buy a tag.
GOD BLESS. Dean

I'll check into the points CJ. Do I have to specify which area the point is for? I don't need a huge one. The size Tyson got would be more than adequate. :)
Here is the link to the points page. A deer point is a deer point, you don't have to chose and area

This guy come out of a general are that this year would take you 2 points to draw. I am a little ashamed to say he was shot 20 yards off the road at 8500 feet the last day of a very long month of hunting other areas. Its taken me a while to figure out mule deer, you just don't hunt them like a whitetail. But just like whitetails you cant shoot a big one by shooting little ones;) Gray hair has taught me not to shoot the first thing with horns I see. I actually took my finger off the trigger on last years buck because I didn't think he had enough mass, what the lacked in mass he made up for in points.

This is my usual mulie out of a general area

No tag

I did not get deer draw for the area we hunt. I had 1 point which usually gets a tag. My hunting buddy had 2 points and still did not get a tag. His sister in law got a tag. This is her first year. Half the group did not draw. We are all going camping and fishing in the hunting unit.:)
I have not tried to antelope hunt but have 12 points. That should make a slam dunk for tags next year.

Way to go CJ!! It's great to have a lucky day like that once in a while. LOL

Tell me, how does a muley compare to a whitetail as tablefare?? About the same?? Again, congratulations on the draw. WD

Nice Mulie! We see a bunch of them out antelope hunting, but so far I haven't considered putting into the draws for them. I am more of a whitetail fan, and we shoot some nice ones here in WI. I did draw Area 26-1, which was the second choice of our group. I think we are at 4 points for our first choice, and that makes next year likely. Anyway, I will be making the yearly pilgrimage to WY, to shoot speed goats...And a bunch of P-dogs will likely try flying one time. :D

I am pleased to report I drew a desert cow/calf Elk for the area around Superior WY. No mule deer buck tag & I did not put in for Antelope.

I think Douglas has 5-6 tags lined up.

It's going to be a busy season in his kitchen processing meat.
