I have a Rem 700 Classic in .220 Swift sitting in my safe, getting old. I will not admit in a public forum how long ago I bought this rifle.
The executive decision has been made that this rifle will be my next project.
Before I go any further, my basic ground rules:
a) I do not particularly enjoy the reloading process. My range is 45 minutes away, my schedule is busy, etc. I want to work up ONE load for this gun.
b) I really want this gun to be my "ready" gun. When someone says - "Hey let's go" this will be the rifle / ammo I grab. Intended targets from prairie dog to coyote to deer... range out to 300 yard max.
I've got a scope set aside and the mounts are in hand.
Now - I need to start load work.
I'm floundering because I'm really having a hard time picking a "do all" bullet. I've had great luck with 55 Gr V-Max bullets, but I'm leaning more towards a "hunting" style bullet rather than a varmint bullet. Sierra 55gr SP BT maybe.
Picking a 55 grain bullet due to barrel twist - just as well use the available horsepower in the round to push a heavier bullet.
Powders, I'll try 4064 for sure - it worked well in my .220 Swift heavy barrel. H380 and H414 are also on my list.
So - finally - the question(s)
Any specific bullet you would recommend? Any other powders I should try?
Thanks in advance...
