Try 55gr Nosler Ballistic Tips with 36.5gr of IMR-4064 and neck sized Winchester brass. Works for me.

 

I like H380 and Varget with 55 gr Nosler BTs when loading for 22-250. I also agree on neck sized Winchester brass and WLR primers.

I have a pound or two of H322 powder that was given to me, is there a good recipe that uses H322? Its not a big deal, as we are going to load for my buddies .223, and he has a recipe that uses it.

I've heard Varget mentioned by several guys. Since I changed the trigger sear, and adjusted the pull, etc. I was hoping to zero in on the most accurate load possible, just to see how tight I can get the groups with the rifle.

Any more secret recipes, especially if you're shooting the 22-250 M77??? I thought I would try several.

The only reason to use H380 is that it flows well. But that is a big reason.

 

There are no secret reciepies that everyone can use. You will find that your ruger will like a certain load and cartridge length better than mine or anyone elses. I had a VT in 22-250 that liked Varget with the bullet set touching the lands but my Tikka likes H380 and .015 off the lands and my wifes 243 likes .030 off the lands with Full length resized cases. Best thing to do is get three or four reloading manuals and compare the loads for the bullet you want to use. I like picking a powder that shows the highest velocity with the lowest chamber pressure and start working up a load. You might find that your rifle will shoot better with the minimum load so start there and watch for pressure signs as you work up. Be careful and consistent paying attention to details. If you have been reloading for a while I'm sure you already know all of this if not I say again be careful and also have fun.

....There are so many load combinations listed, that it can make a beginners head spin....

I have been reloading for 2 - 2 1/2 years and my head is still spinning. Sometimes it seems completely overwhelming the sheer number of variables. 3brands of brass, 2 primers, 5 bullets, 5 powders in 8 different weights... the numbers are mind boggling. Trim all that down to 1 brand of brass and 1 primer and you still have 50 different possible load combinations for ONE gun!

 

http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp lists data for 45gr., 50gr., 52gr., & 55gr. Bullets with H-322. It is not a maximum velocity powder in the .22-250 but I have used it myself in the past for a reduced velocity / reduced recoil load with good success.

My M77 likes H4895 with the 55 Hornady soft point in WW cases and WW primers. Does a number on the yotes as well

 

I'll gve you a load that worked like the hammer of Thor on coyotes, and had good long range ballistics. Try the 64 grain Winchester Powerpoint bullets with 38 grains of Accurate 4350. It will stabilize in a 1 in 14 twist 22/250 barrel, and expand well, not explode. You need penetration on coyotes, this will bust through a legbone on a frontal shot. Try it, you may thank me..

Another vote for H380, 55 grain BT's WLR primers, Win cases.
Seated as long as they will go and still fit in the mag on my Ruger 77 VT.
Hover around <1/2" for 3 shots, sometimes 5 shots.

 

I have the same rifle

M77 heavy barrel and the load that shoots well for me is the 55gr vmax with 37gr H380. This puts them in a nickel at 100. This is a fast load and I have had some blow up on coyote shoulders at close range; no problems when it slows down a bit further out. Now I'm working on a lead free load with the Barnes 36gr Varmint Grenade. I talked to Barnes and was informed that the 36gr bullets may have a problem blowing up on coyote coats covered with ice but since that's not a problem in my part of California I'm going to try a box or two at the range and in the field.
